From 16 to 22 September 2008 the European cities and towns will have the opportunity to participate to the most widespread event on sustainable mobility, the European Mobility Week.

A full week of events dedicated to sustainable mobility will be organised in more than 2000 cities and towns.

The European Mobility Week

After the organisation of two successful ”In town without my car!” events in the whole of Europe, the year 2002 marked the start of a new initiative, the European Mobility Week! The seventh edition will take place in 2008!

Why such a campaign?

Such an undertaking arose from a finding: Europeans are very worried about pollution and urban mobility. In town, many people complain of a poor quality of life: air pollution, noise pollution, overcrowding, etc. And yet, the number of cars is increasing...

What does it consist of?

The success of such an operation on a European wide scale means the mobilisation of as many countries and towns as possible but it also requires homogeneity of measures introduced.

What is the link with Europe?

The European Mobility Week has started in the European Union in 2002 with the political support of the European Commission, DG Environment. At the European level, three networks of European cities and towns are in charge of the campaign coordination.

The promotion and organisation of the European Mobility Week requires a great deal of coordination between different levels of governance and different stakeholders.
