THE EUROPEAN COORDINATION
The European Mobility Week is based on a partnership between the core consortium (Eurocities, Energie-Cités, Climate Alliance), representatives from national ministries and agencies, European and International Associations and Organisations and the European Commission.
With the political and financial support of the European Commission, three partners have gathered to form the European Mobility Week core consortium: EUROCITIES, Energie-Cités and Climate Alliance.
The tasks of this European Coordination are the day-to-day management and the promotion of the initiative at European level, to define common objectives and methodologies as well as to provide communication and evaluation strategies and tools.
The European Coordination works closely with the European Commission, the national coordinators and the International and European Associations and Organisations. Coordination meetings. It serves as regular interface to ensure the coherence of the initiative.
THE NATIONAL COORDINATORS
They are appointed by their National Ministries in order to link European and local levels and provide country-specific assistance. They respond more closely to regional and local needs and guarantee the delivery of the political message, the definition of a common methodology and the organisation of promotional campaigns at national level.
Their tasks are to advertise the event, to adapt and disseminate information and communication tools to the participants, to provide an exchange of experience among the participating cities and towns as well as to collect and prepare local authorities’ efforts for the work with the media on the national level press.
They can also be responsible for identifying additional national partners that may have useful and relevant skills or activities to offer to the initiative.
ASSOCIATIONS AND ORGANISATIONS
The initiative is also supported by European and international associations and organisations that commit themselves to promoting the EMW and facilitating the organisation of the Week in local authorities. The Associations and Organisations address their respective members, stimulate them to promote and take part in the initiative and provide them with ideas for organising activities. So far, a total of 18 international and European associations and organisations have signed the EMW Pledge. This formal support from European and international associations and organisations is greatly welcomed as it enlarges substantially the audience to which the message of sustainable mobility is delivered.
Joining the European Mobility Week initiative as a Pledge signatory is a voluntary expression of commitment to the objectives of the initiative. Though not entailing legally binding obligations, becoming a Pledge signatory requires strong commitment and a substantial contribution to the promotion and dissemination of the European Mobility Week.
Requirements and benefits
Pledge signatories are required to formally agree on the following:
Providing a contact person to the European Commission and the European Coordination of the European Mobility Week;
Actively proposing participation in / co-operation with European Mobility Week to the Signatory‘s members;
Creating a link (including the European Mobility Week logo) to the European Mobility Week website on the website of the organisation;
Including European Mobility Week news (minimum 2 per annum) in the newsletter and/or on the webbsite of the Pledge Signatory organisation;
Disseminating leaflets and other materials in order to promote European Mobility Week at relevant conferences and workshops organised by the Pledge Signatory;
Presenting or allowing the presentation of European Mobility Week in major events organised by the Signatory; and
Providing feedback to the European Coordination on promotional and recruitment activities that the Pledge Signatory has undertaken via a light yearly activity report.
These collaborations are win-win solutions as on the one hand, it can support the associations and organisations in the lobbying work they are doing, and on the hand, provide an additional drive to EMW on the national and local levels. The Pledge signatories receive regular information from the European coordination which can be forwarded to their members and can help them draft lobbying letters addressed to national and local governments: pointing out and reminding them of their responsibilities in the field of sustainable mobility, promoting the activities and ideas of the NGOs towards improved sustainable mobility, as well as putting forward the EMW as an important tool for promoting and involving the citizens in sustainable mobility policies. In return of their commitment, the EMW partners benefit from:
A formal acknowledgement as a key ally of the EMW including being invited to and promoted at the European Mobility Week Award Ceremony;
A visibility on the EMW website and promotional materials (leaflets that are disseminated widely throughout Europe);
A formal right to present and represent the EMW in relevant meetings and conferences organised by the associations; and
A formal right to attend EMW coordination meetings (3 times a year).
The criteria for collaboration between the EMW and associations and organisations are currently being re-evaluated in order to improve the system and the mutual benefits from the cooperation. Therefore, to our regret, it is temporarily impossible to apply to become pledge signatory.
COORDINATION MEETINGS
The national coordinators meet three times a year in order to ensure a certain coherence between their activities at national level, to exchange experiences and bring out innovative ideas for future prospects. These meetings also represent a perfect opportunity for the European coordination and European Commission to offer support and present the overall promotional strategy for each edition of the Week. These fruitful exchanges are very inspiring and keep everyone motivated in working towards a continuously growing campaign.
These meetings are open to all appointed national coordinators as well as representatives from associations and organisations that have signed the EMW pledge.
